Starbase Texas Jobs

What jobs are available at Starbase, Texas?

SpaceX is the primary employer in the city of Starbase Texas, and one of the largest employers in the Rio Grande Valley. SpaceX is currently hiring for numerous roles across engineering, manufacturing, supply chain logistics, and operations. Job postings for Starbase and the surrounding Brownsville area can be found here: Starbase Job Postings. Some of these open positions can be performed either in the city of Starbase, or in Hawthorne California near the current company headquarters.

These job positions and the requirements involved are constantly evolving, but anyone who is skilled in mechanical engineering, materials science, software engineering, stainless steel welding, or general construction should consider applying to SpaceX to help advance their mission to get humanity to Mars. Every single one of these roles offers a chance to directly impact the entire future of the human race. SpaceX has a large hiring budget and is constantly striving to hire the top talent across the engineering, science, and construction fields. However, they are continually strapped for talent. This appeal to find quality workers willing to relocate to Starbase comes directly from Elon Musk himself.

A screenshot of Elon Musk's tweet from March 2020. It reads "Please consider moving to Starbase or greater Brownsville/South Padre area in Texas & encourage friends to do so! SpaceX’s hiring needs for engineers, technicians, builders & essential support personnel of all kinds are growing rapidly."

The vast majority of the SpaceX employees who live in the RGV work in the city of Starbase itself. These workers spend their days at either the Build Site, the Launch Site, or split between both of those locations. There are also employees working at the Port of Brownsville who are responsible for converting two retired oil drilling rigs into offshore floating Starship launch platforms. Many SpaceX employees live at Starbase temporarily, including Elon Musk who leases a $50,000 tiny house

McGregor, Texas

SpaceX also has a sizable presence in McGregor Texas, a 6.5 hour drive from Starbase. This area is home to an engine factory, and its proximity to south Texas makes it very easy for SpaceX to build rocket engines and ship them down by truck. Open positions in McGregor be found here: McGregor Job Board

In July of 2021, Elon Musk announced that SpaceX would be expanding their presence in McGregor by building a second engine factory capable of producing up to 1000 Raptor engines per year. This factory should produce enough engines to support the Starship program which could unlock SpaceX's term goal of colonizing Mars.

While SpaceX employs the vast majority of people who in the area, it isn't the only local business operating within the proposed city limits of Starbase, Texas. Rocket Ranch is a campsite that caters to space enthusiasts who are in the area to check out the SpaceX factory or watch Starship prototype launches. Rocket Ranch was created by David Santilena and opened in late 2020. It has seen steady growth since opening and now offers 3 campsites and a cabin for rent.

Another nearby business is Massey's, a local gun shop and range that has been open for years. Massey's was recently purchased by SpaceX, but will still continue operating in its existing capacity for the foreseeable future.
