Starbase Brewing Is In Space!
On August 1st, we launched our first two payloads to the International Space Station on NASA's Crew-11 Mission!
MicroBrew-1 is the world's first attempt to ferment a beer in space. We will analyze fermentation properties and study how yeast is affected by microgravity and radiation. This has the potential to improve space-based food/beverage production, life support, biomanufacturing, and more.
OASIS is the world's first attempt to grow crops in soil in space. We've mixed the main byproduct of brewing (spent grain) into Martian regolith to improve soil health, and are attempting to grow barley. This should be a major advancement in the field of space-based agriculture.
